Just something I've been observing over the last six months or so that I thought might be an interesting topic to discuss. I grew up in a fundamentalist christian cult where they believed they had the keys to salvation, the keys to the correct interpretation of the scriptures which in turn meant only they would survive Armageddon, the rest of us are well screwed because being a good person with a good heart doesn't count, if you aren't doing the 'right things in the right way'. Pretty funny huh?
I've also noted having come from said background I may perhaps be more aptly aware of the dangers of such thinking among new agers. There are some who believe that certain rituals, practices, lifestyles are the 'keys' or 'secret knowledge' that leads to the reward of enlightenment and or ascension.
Now the same rules that govern why that was bullshit within the fundamentalist religious movement apply with new age fundamentalist beliefs as well. When any person or group believes they have the 'corner market' on salvation/ascension/enlightenment it BECOMES religion. Whether you label it as such or not is a moot point. It is a belief that a particular way is the right way, therefore is dogma and thus religion. Just not a mainstream religion perhaps.
So here is where my red flags go up high. Some might argue believing that they have the right way to ascension is not like the Inquisition or the Witch Hunts of yester year however it is still abjection of "I'm right, you are wrong", " I will ascend, you won't" because I have the "right" way to do it. It is still casting judgement about who will go up or down the universal ladder.
Like religion, there are a few problems in my opinion with that. It means the creator is an asshole . If he/she would allow innocent good souls to not advance because they don't have the right tools or knowledge and therefore tough shit for them...yeah I got a problem with that.
Now some would say all will ascend in due time, so when this mass change happens to humanity, to planet earth, all children who aren't privy to certain breathing techniques, mantras and etc., will just stay in the hell of 3D along with many elderly who were brought up conditioned with 3D religion, and numerous others who just aren't 'doing it right'. Hmmm? Does that not remind anyone of a modern day equivalent to hellfire or purgatory?
Examples of such beliefs......If you eat meat you aren't ascending, if you don't eat organic only, you aren't ascending, if you don't practice kundalini meditation, you aren't ascending, if you aren't practicing the correct breathing during meditation and following these certain secret initiates you aren't ascending. Says who? John Doe? Yeah I remember that guy, with his smug superiority that he had studied the ancient texts, learned the proper way to meditate, etc. He was kind of a pompous ass come to think of it, who seemed to really enjoy thinking of himself as further along the spiritual evolutionary journey. He wasn't overly loving or humble or kind, didn't really help the needy except to lecture them.
Ironically it does remind me of a biblical scripture...verbatim quote "in the last days there will be those having a form of godly devotion but provely false to it's power". Having a form of spirituality that denotes superiority or a privileged standing due to a belief in superior knowledge, in and of itself negates what being spiritual is. Personally I would think that ALL who have loving hearts will have the opportunity to 'ascend' as the shift becomes more and more evident. Only those who truly resist the light won't.
I kind of thought we were here to help with that transition and help people understand what was going on so they would not be afraid but embrace it. If only a selected number of highly 'advanced' spiritual people get to ride up the ladder out of 3D then ya gotta kinda ask yourself, why are we all here? But then I guess that's my 'belief' isn't it? :P
So what do you all think? Do you think that there is a danger of ascension/new age fundamentalist belief turning into new religion or cult? Do you see a co-relation between the two? Share your views here!
